First-Year Experience Faculty Coordinator 2013-2015
As the First-Year Experience Faculty Coordinator at Spelman College, I made recommendations to a Steering Committee of mostly senior faculty concerning summer reading, topics, themes, and matters related to advising.
In this position, I managed a faculty MOODLE site with suggested lesson plans that corresponded to the topics that the Steering Committee approved. I also designed and managed a class blog. When the Steering Committee approved Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's, Americanah, I was the sole faculty contributor to the blog throughout the summer of 2014. Before becoming First-Year Experience Faculty Coordinator, I participated as an instructor/advisor for first-generation college students. Most faculty agreed that College Experience textbooks did not address the needs or experiences of black college students. In response to that, we created units, invited speakers, and eventually created a video series to address the needs of Spelman College students. Below, you will find examples of what we developed:
